Lavalier necklaces are thought to have been named after the Duchess Louise de La Vallière, the mistress of French King Louis XIV in the mid 17th Century.  They have been around for a very long time, but were extremely popular in the late 1800's-early 1900's.

This sweet little lavalier necklace is crafted from 10k yellow gold and has the filigree look and pearl drop that was typical of the turn of the century.

The gemstone is a square cut amethyst in perfect condition.  The pearl drop is an irregular shape with lovely iridescence.  The bail holding the pearl has a little flower pattern on it-such a nice detail.

The chain is 14k yellow gold, 16 3/4 long, and closes with a spring ring clasp.

Such a gorgeous simple statement piece.
